Job Summary:
The Power Plant Environmental Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards within the power plant facility. The technician is responsible for monitoring, managing, and maintaining the environmental systems and processes to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess the power plant's environmental performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor and analyze air emissions, water discharges, and waste management practices to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Implement and maintain environmental management systems, including monitoring equipment, data collection, and reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement environmental initiatives and projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and waste generation.
- Assist in the development and implementation of environmental policies, procedures, and training programs to promote environmental awareness and compliance among power plant staff.
- Perform environmental impact assessments to identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate adverse effects.
- Investigate and resolve environmental incidents, spills, and complaints, ensuring prompt and effective response measures are implemented.
- Work closely with regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors to maintain strong relationships and stay up-to-date with environmental regulations and industry best practices.
- Stay informed about emerging environmental trends, technologies, and regulations, and provide recommendations for the power plant's continuous improvement.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an environmental role within the power generation, energy, or utilities industry.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, including air quality, water quality, hazardous waste, and spill prevention.
- Strong understanding of environmental monitoring techniques, data analysis, and reporting.
- Proficient in using environmental monitoring equipment and software.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex environmental data and identify trends.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate complex environmental concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 and other environmental management systems is preferred.
- Professional certifications in environmental management or related fields are advantageous.
